If there’s one thing you can expect from Buick, it’s cutting-edge innovation. That’s why the automaker has wasted no time in revamping its recently released Buick LaCrosse with the latest and greatest in modern technology. The 2018 version of the automaker’s flagship four-door vehicle will be available soon with a fully upgraded powertrain that gives it best-in-class fuel economy at a bargain price.
Despite its new 4-cylinder mild hybrid powertrain, the 2018 LaCrosse can be yours for as little as $30,490 (plus a mandatory $925 destination charge). That’s a $3,000 price drop compared to last year’s model but Buick is willing to take the hit if it means more drivers will get to experience the exceptional capabilities of the new LaCrosse.
Under the hood, the LaCrosse’s new powertrain is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission that helps significantly reduce the vehicle’s fuel consumption. The engine is accompanied by a hybrid system which features a 0.45 kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired to a small electric motor. The electric system provides a surge of power to the LaCrosse’s 2.5-liter gasoline engine that offers a 20 percent bump in fuel economy. It may not sound like much, but that increase in efficiency will allow drivers to achieve roughly 25 mpg in the city.
This proprietary system has been dubbed “eAssist” and it’s going to come standard on all front-wheel drive versions of the LaCrosse. The eAssist powertrain will only be paired to a 6-speed transmission and will lead to a 9 percent increase in the vehicle’s overall torque capabilities.
“Executing innovative technologies in an approachable and meaningful way is core to Buick,” Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC, said in a recent statement. “By adding the eAssist system to the LaCrosse, our technology flagship, we are making electrification accessible to our customers as we chart our course to the future of mobility.”
Of course, that 2018 Buick LaCrosse will include a few other exciting updates. The vehicle will offer expanded all-wheel drive options and an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission for drivers that opt for V-6 models. To meet driver demands, the automaker is also including its intelligent AWD system with active twin clutch on the Essence trim level. And you can tie all this thrilling Buick goodness up into a beautiful package with three new exterior color options: Satin Steel Metallic, Dark Slate Metallic and Red Quartz Tintcoat.
