Along with Wuling-Baojun, Chevrolet and Cadillac, Buick is one of the hottest selling brands in China today.
In fact, out of the 11 vehicles that it sells there, the American auto company has dedicated six of its models exclusively to the Chinese market.
GM is confident that because of the increasing popularity of the Buick nameplate in the region, it projects sales of over 1.4 million vehicles in China alone.

The Buick Excelle is manufactured in China and sold as a small family car. In April of 2016 alone, consumers bought more than 12,000 units. And has been part of the China-based division’s lineup since 2003.
Just like the Excelle, the Excelle GT is the forerunner of the Buick Verano. And while it bears the same name as the previous GM vehicle, the similarities end there. A brand new platform was designed for the Chinese market for 2015, while the Excelle GT is still celebrated as Buick’s best-selling sedan today.
The Buick Verano hatchback bears a strong resemblance to the Opel Astra hatchback and is offered as a sportier alternative to other Buick sedans.
For those that appreciate the optics of owning a racier Buick model, the Verano GS fits the bill in the Chinese market.
Anyone familiar with Buick in the region, is also familiar with the GL8. Because the automaker is selling two generations of the same model, we get the idea that GM believes “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.”
The Buick GL8 Luxury MPV sports the same platform as the GL8 – but it offers more amenities than the latter. Because of its price, the GL8 Luxury MPV is more popular among taxi companies and corporate fleets than the typical family in China.
The hybrid Buick LaCrosse is designed specifically for the Chinese market and its 1.8 liter engine is a must-have among green automobile enthusiasts.
Here in the states, Buick is prepared to launch several new vehicles for the U.S. market including the Enclave, Regal, Sportback and Regal TourX. The brand is confident the increase in sales numbers will continue its upward trend, highlighting its fifth consecutive year of record sales worldwide.
